Letter 002 · Dear Mother
The Work No One Sees
4 min read · Grace · Purpose · Faith
“He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.”
ISAIAH 40:11
Dear Mother,
No one claps for the third load of washing. No one gives a certificate for the fever you sat through at 2am, or the lunchbox packed with the last of the bread, or the prayers you whispered over a sleeping child while carrying worries of your own. But I want you to know: the work no one sees is the work that holds the world together.
You are building people. Not projects, not products — people. Every small act of steadiness you offer becomes the ground someone else will stand on for the rest of their life. Long after the meals are forgotten, the feeling of being safe in your presence will remain in their bones.
And on the days you feel you are failing — the days of short tempers and long silences — remember that your children do not need a perfect mother. They need a present one. Grace was designed for days exactly like those.
God sees the hidden hours. He gently leads those that have young. That means there is a special tenderness reserved for you — not because you are weak, but because what you carry is precious.
Reflection
Tonight, instead of counting what went undone, name three invisible things you did today that loved somebody well. That is the true ledger of your day.
A Prayer
Lord, when I feel unseen, remind me that You see. Renew my strength in the hidden places, and let my home be built on the quiet faithfulness You are working through me. Amen.
With love and hope,
Tebogo Mazibuko
